As a starting point, it's good to first show whether or not there's a measurable and statistically valid correlation between hip fractures and diet. If there was no noticeable difference between people with two extremes of diet, then you'd conclude that meat consumption doesn't have a noticeable impact on hip fractures.

Now others have data to do more focused analysis on how much meat makes an impact, and what nutrients from the meat are making the impact.
