1. It made me even more of a leftie that I already was and coming from a mining family that must have been quite difficult!

For 7, wasn't the whole point of Brexit to avoid EU financial disclosure regulations?

And yet; for all the sunshine, it's the US that feels gloomy & oppressive to me.

"Neurodivergent" seems as good a word as any for some of what I've been living with - or coping with living with - however long it's been.

I find such differences in how our minds function to be fascinating. That's the power of a large population / society, hopefully it means we can all find a niche for our talents.

The most obviously "different" work colleauges that I (IT Dev) and my sister (statistician) have had were actuaries. And that's us from our viewpoint where we and our own peers are usually at least moderately far from the baseline! The highly numeric professions do seem to attract a certain kind of mind.

On ADHD, forgetfulness and concentration - I feel blessed. I have no form of it afaik. But I did get 95% of the same sort of concentration abilities. I can do 3 solid 12-16 hr days on A Thing, if I have to / I'm into it, and an excellent memory .... without the "forgetting things" disadvantage. (Sis is same, so is my dad. Also so were my geeky grandparents and uncle, yay for genetics).

But ... I'm STILL envious of my friends with the full blown ADHD/Aspergers/insomnia combo. They just get SO much deeper into a subject... sigh. Most of them can also "fake" social better than I do! Well, it looks like it to me, anyway. :-)

We need ALL the types of brains as a society, more chance of producing wonders!

My politics don't map particularly well onto Western political spectra, but in UK terms it made me a lot more rightist, or at least centrist than I was before, partly because the opinions of some of the lefty students about my region were so offensive.

Oh well, that was thirty years ago, so we were all young and silly, and time has confirmed the irrelevance of their opinions...

My parents read the Torygraph, although this was not in fact because of the politics, but because my father liked the sports pages. Nevertheless, that and a very traditional school meant that it was only when I got to university and picked up a copy of the Guardian that I began to think that maybe trades unionists weren't the spawn of the devil.
