She's read/watched Coraline recently?

Not yet. Common Sense Media says 8/9 for the book/movie which feels about right to me. So 5 years to go!

Age-appropriate reading

I read everything I could get my hands on from a very early age. I was even encouraged to. I'm not sure I'm necessarily advocating that in all cases, but I don't think a child with an advanced mind and reading ability should be stifled by recommendations for the average child! I hit the adult library at 8, special case, cos the kids library was a) too beneath me and boring b) I'd read most of it anyway!

I suspect you're going to have to wing it with Sophia - in all sorts of ways. I can SEE by how she looks and holds herself and what I know by what you say about her that she really really bright and is super advanced for her chronological age. You will have to make your own rules. She'll likely break them, too!

Oh yeah, advanced concepts I'm not worried about. I do worry about scaring her. She's a nervous child and needs reassurance over scary stuff as it is.

So I'll let her decide how to push that. Video I'm happy for her to take her time over.
