Giving peerages to people so they can be ministers is pure cronyism but hardly unprecedented. It has a long history. And they used to be hereditary peerages which is worse. What's become more obsolete is parachuting them into Commons seats for the same reason.

What amuses me is that the guy's name is Offord. Sounds like Ofcom or something like that. (Is there a list of agencies called Ofthis or Ofthat? Dashed if I can get Google to generate one.)

There is a list of agencies that start with Of. Ofcom, Ofgem and Ofstead are probably the most well known.

He would be the Office for the Regulation of River Crossings I think.

2. She had the kind of exciting day that she might have preferred to avoid, didn't she?

3. May those of us who have not experienced such publishers avoid the experience!

5. Amen! That there are British Conservative MPs on the record as opposed to exceptions to a ban on conversion "therapy" is a praiseworthy thing. I hope such resistance continues.

6. So that's the going rate for a life peerage now?
