not so long ago one saw places that would only take cash, how the times have changed. Whilst I agree that it is discriminatory for restaurants to go cashless, I think that a bigger problem is WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE UNBANKED?? and perhaps one could work on both ends of the problem

I agree that the government should, in some way, be acting as the banker of last resort.

And as soon as 100% of people are covered by this I'll be much happier about letting businesses only take cards.

The availability of banking services is so racially segregated in the US that large portions of the minority communities operate on an entirely cash-based economy, even for large purchases. The exciting part comes when the cops pull over drivers and confiscate any large amounts of cash they or their passengers may be carrying - they're allowed to do that, even without an arrest - on the grounds that maybe it was drug-dealing proceeds. Maybe, but it could also be their life savings, being taken to buy a car, or a house. Then they have to sue to get their money back, which probably won't happen. Meanwhile, the cops use the money to buy more fancy hardware. Yes, they're allowed to do that too.

Laws designed officially to defeat organized crime being perverted by accident AND design into the service of racial oppression's continuation. You do need something like a RICO Act to take down, say, the American Mafia or the Trump Organization...but it shouldn't be used to also keep BIPOC people poor...and yet it continues to be used that exact way. The suspicion that this was planned remains.

There are likely people in both houses of the US Congress and the several state houses working on this problem, seeking the restoration of postal banking services. If my memory serves...?

One hopes that that fast food result only applies to US-style fast food, eaten in excess. Traditional "Street"/hawker food can be very nice in most places, and not necessarily bad for you, in moderation. Having pho as part of your regular diet is probably not a bad thing. I like those wurst stands in Austria and Germany too, though probably not every day.
