Is the maths thing (girls worse than boys) a real thing? I never heard anything like that when I was in school (a long time ago). All the top students were pushed into STEM regardless of their sex (I had to appeal personally to the principal to be allowed to stay in the Arts stream, and that wasn't because of Maths, it was because I balked at murdering mice for nothing...). I know girls still tend to go into engineering less than boys except in countries with past or present socialist governments, but as far as I know they just go and be accountants or actuaries or businesswomen instead...lots of jobs need numeracy.

It was certainly something that I heard back in the 70s/early 80s.
I'm not sure if it's something that still goes around playgrounds.
