but the point is it clears nothing up. there's certainly an implication that she didn't eat her rabbit, because if the original post was serious, why would she write this second one, but still, she says nothing about whether it was true or not.
i'd like to think that the original post was true, but i'm too much of a cynicist to really believe it.

The point is, it's ok to eat a pet, as a mark of respect.

Hell, if someone ate me as a mark of respect, well... I'd be a little uncomfortable about the killing part... but the mark of respect bit would be nice.

An English friend of mine posted a picture of his snake at feeding time to a local group on a private server. He has a large snake and occasionally buys a feeder rabbit for it. I asked him for permission to claim it as mine for a short bit.

The target used the no-archive flag, so her message only shows up when they're quoted. A lot of her posts immediately after the picture posted were pretty heated and animated, though. I decided she was a cruel person before pulling this joke on her. Heck, she probably still hates me.

I was disappointed that he hadn't actually done it. (Apparently, the amount of meat on the dish is too much to represent a rabit.)

I do respect the point he's raising. And the fact that he pissed a lot of people off is good.

She's a writer of novels. I have only ever read one, because that one successfully put me off ever trying another. (Well, okay, maybe not ever. But that was over 8 years ago and I've never picked up another one.)

Anyway, no, I can believe Poppy Z. Brite would be totally unmoved by a story about someone who may or may not have eaten a pet rabbit that may or may not be dead. She's written much worse stories than that.

When my father lived on a farm (with my grandmother, etc) they used to swap pigs/sheep/cows with their neighbour, so that you always ate an anonymous animal...
