Even better, you can put the solar panels on land that is too poor to grow crops and then grow food on the biofuel land.

YES!!

Most land can be improved by natural means in time, but there's plenty where it would make far more sense just to do this. (Too rocky, too dry, too windy etc)

We could put solar panels on land that is too poor to grow crops, and make edible oils and sugars using electricity, water, and carbon dioxide extracted from the air! The chemistry techniques have been around since the 1920s. Sugarcane is one of the best crops for making human-edible calories, and even that has less than 4% efficiency. We could use sugarcane fields for growing crops with more nutrients.
