Combining peak and off-peak fares into a new “flat fare” structure
Date: 2018-06-04 11:32 am (UTC)Huh, I wonder. I feel like it's obvious what people want (basically, "not be awful") but I'm never sure when it's worth responding to a consultation and spelling it out in words of one syllable. I feel like, "charging people more for busy trains" may be unavoidable. But maybe we could avoid "here's a million hoops to jump through, the price doubles for each one you miss", like, maybe offer advance fares and ADVERTISE CLEARLY WHEN THEY GO ON SALE? Or offer advance fares for a day, and not just a specific train and randomly punish people whose connection fails? Do they really really really put on more carriages on trains with lots of advance tickets sold? Or is that just a lie? Why are day returns cheaper but not weekend returns?
