No need for a new name (if you're changing it for apparent-gender reasons) - Loki changes gender quite happily. You could go with Hela but it's a little ominous.

How sure are you about the not having a penis? My understanding of the ultrasound imaging is that it's not hugely reliable at detecting them.

We got a very good look straight up between the legs. The ultrasound operative said that she's not allowed to be completely certain, but she was 99.9% sure.

On which note, I was really impressed by how well the ultrasound worked. That they can adjust the depth to do different cross sections, looking inside the body at different depths (to find the heart, kidneys, etc) feels almost magical to me.

Hadn't realised the technology ran in the family - the people at the unit were talking about some new technology on the way, but didn't know the name, so now I have some reading to do!

You could consider one of the names coined by Jonathan Swift, Vanessa and Stella. (Both applied by him to women actually named Esther, by the way, and there's an honorable name unlikely to be shared by any of her schoolmates.)

Ah, but does she know an Esther? That's the rare name of the bunch. I like the other names less for being rare (Vanessa certainly isn't) than because Swift invented them. Many People Do Not Know That.

Lola? Sort of sticks with the original sound/pronunciation of Loki, yet still sounds good. I'm also with everyone who says just keep the name Loki if you want, as making gendered names unisex is not in bad taste (disclosure: my mom had one - actually more of a nickname, while her mom had a more unisex one, which brings us back a good 100+ years on the history of people who like to do that).

Come to think of it, Loki is unfamiliar to me so I don't see or hear it as gendered, anyhow (I guess I'm just taking that cue from your stated need for a name change).
