Uber, which was last month stripped off its London licence to operate, said employing its 50,000 self-employed drivers would cost the company millions of pounds a year.

Why yes. When you actually have to pay your employees, it costs the company. The basic idea for most businesses is, you set your prices high enough that they cover operating expenses - like employee wages and benefits. If your company can't pay its workers and run at a profit, you've picked the wrong industry.

That sadly makes far too much sense for 1991. When we rewatched ST DS:9 a couple of years ago, we noticed that it took until the 3rd season (1995) for sexual harassment of women to cease being an opportunity for humor.

Yeah, it's been a long slow change. And it's startling how much people used to be really open about - because it was just an accepted part of society.
