The first X-Men movie made a character as deeply unpromising as Toad interesting and scary, so I'm not overly surprised that they managed to do something similar with Dr. Octopus, but it is still very cool.

Spidey's giving us only one bad guy at a time -- they'll have lots of mileage with this one.

I wonder why they didn't update Spider Man's outfit?

No offense allorin, but that suit needs a rehaul.

Generally, you don't mess with trademarks, because that's how you make licensing money, and Spidey's suit is definitely a trademark.

(But, see the mid-1980s for when they changed Spidey's suit to a much cooler black & white. I'd presume licensing made them change it back.)

Yeah, I remember that -- "Venom" or something. And it was really a bad guy or a living suit or both.

But they changed Wolverine's outfit for the X-Men movies. In fact, they discarded his costume entirely. Batman too.

I had it removed because it *was* trying to bond with me. Ever had a weird alien symbiote try to bond with you permanently? Not pleasant. Plus, it snored.

I mean, OK, it was cool being able to will it to change into 'civvies' whenever I wanted, and generate my own webs (a la the movie), but y'know, a guy has to draw a line somewhere. Could have caused problems with the ladies, if'n you know what I mean.

So, good ol' Reed Richards helped me out. Trouble was, it acted like a jilted lover. Hell hath no fury like an alien symbiote spurned. Once it hooked up with Eddie Brock (who, let's face it, was a bit of an arse), it found a like minded (ie, f*cked up and alien) being to bond with, and then set about trying to kill me.

Man, all this 'cos of that dumb radioactive Spider.

Anyway, after the first appearance of Venom (Amazing Me #298-300), MJ was freaked by the sight of the black cossie, so I turfed it and reverted to the good ol' red 'n' blue. Wasn't nothing to do with Copyright, merely fan-pressure and the fact that I was being written by someone decent again (David Micheline). Ah, those were the days.

By the way, the final page of AMS #300, when I swing out over NY in my traditional PJs, is an absolute classic.

Hmm. From the poster I found myself hoping that Paul McGann would be playing a different kind of Doctor...
