The chippy brown sauce article made me laugh. I come from the south east coast of England where red sauce is the norm. But I'm so used to Edinburgh salt'n'sauce that I was completely blindsided on a recent visit to a Stonehaven chippy when they put red sauce on.

Would I shriek, "racism!" If I were charged for a sachet of ketchup in an Edinburgh chippy? No. The fact is that chippy brown sauce is a local favourite, prepared in batch and applied via catering squeegee bottle at a cheaper cost and therefore easier to apply free of charge. Would I expect to pay for single, sachet packaged portion of uncommon (in Edinburgh) sauce? Probably not but I wouldn't mind.
