Technically Linux did make it to the desktop
Date: 2012-08-31 10:55 pm (UTC)No maker of desktop Linux distros like SUSE and Red Hat ever bothered trying that, and Ubuntu sucks because of the owner's arrogance. I suspect taking that kind of risk of dumping X11 outside of mobile might have required an investment and resources that would require a lot of corporate support no single distro company could attract if they weren't involved in mobile, but I'm not an IT person so I'm just speculating.
