I'm all for legalizing pot - more than I can say - but I don't see it happening because it requires the US government to back away from Single Convention Treaty on Narcotic Drugs it forced down the throats of the world's governments in 1961.

I'd settle for decriminalization at the state level. But I live in Texas, and even if every Baptist in the state smoked weed, they'd still vote to keep it illegal.

For the most part I'm still pleased with Obama, he's gotten a hell of a lot done. Most of it isn't "the big issues" that immediately garner media attention but the man's been busy and accomplished. I suspect with marijuana it's largely out of his hands, however, due to international treaties.

That said, I seem to remember hearing recently that scientists have invented a strain of marijuana that serves the same medical purposes without producing a high. That could change some of the arguments.
