> Naked rambler Stephen Gough arrested again. I am full of fury and despair

Why?

On the high street before breakfast, yes. "Stupid and ridiculous", really?

"Censor" is an interesting word. It usually applies to art, literature, or significant political/military information. Here we're talking about some slightly mad bloke's cock, in public, with no specific opt-in criteria being either specified or requested. Do you consider there to be a moral equivalence, or are you simply being absolutist?

There are real people who really live in this world who feel the same way about my face and (head) hair. In what way is their desire to not see my face not exactly the same as your desire not to see some "mad bloke's" cock?

I refuse to draw a line, because I see no logic for preferring a line in position X over a line in position Y. It is MY BODY, and I will show the world as much or as little of it as I choose; you get to look away if you don't like it.

Thank you for being so clear.

I can understand the value of not drawing a line, and I appreciate that as a position, but I still think the situation is more nuanced than that. This is the shouting-fire-in-a-crowded-theatre debate. Your right to throw a punch ends one inch away from my face; we're talking about photons here, which makes it more difficult.

I've not seen your face (or hair) so I can't answer your question. Perhaps you have a swastika tattooed on it. If so I would defend your right to freedom of expression, but I would expect you to understand that you are, probably deliberately, being offensive to many people.

Do I have the right to express myself, in song, outside your bedroom widow at 2am? Does it make any difference if the song is political or has artistic merit?

If you're naked in public and I don't want to see it, and I turn away as is my right, then do you have the right to run around the front and waggle at me?

Did Richard Herring have the right to make that rohypnol joke last week?

You have the right to say offensive things; I have the right to say offensive things right back... I don't think you have the right to force yourself into my personal space and yell at me, wave your cock at me, or otherwise get all up in my biznis; but you do have the right to go about your life without my telling you how.

My appearance is no more or less offensive than that of millions of other women; and yet if I went out dressed as I am (trousers, shirt) in the streets of Kabul or Tehran I'd be risking arrest (or worse) for my immodest state of dress.

I really hope they didn't spend a lot of money on that research.

I think I could spend ten minutes at Tim Hortons and find at least fifty people to tell them that poverty contributes to anxiety and the poor moms are most likely to be affected.

Knowing where the rent money, food money, and utility money were coming from would probably do much more good than medications.

It's a bit like concluding that water is wet and apples grow on apple trees.

Or that the Earth is flat, or that the continents have been fixed in their current positions in perpetuity.

There have been many things that people have known to be true, that people find obvious, that weren't actually true. Other things that were true but many people didn't believe.

This is in the latter case. Having research and evidence to back things up makes it a lot easier to persuade policy makers, especially if said policy makers are from the sort of background that thinks poverty is not being able to afford the school fees.

I can't say I'm that sympathetic towards that guy, because there is a logic to this. He's a man, and it can be easily viewed as an attempt to expose himself to women. I'm not saying he's a sex predator, but I can see why laws like this remain to keep people clothed, at least in cultures such as this.

I hope he doesn't whine about having troubles finding a job.

Thanks! I see that now -- I'll be looking into it.

My plan is to have a weekly roundup of ecological news for my blog, "Nature Intrudes."

I think I got 5 points on the Mastermind round. (There were a couple where I was half a second behind the contestant, but I think I was getting them.)
