The joys of my local pub being right in front of the tram stop where people get dropped off when they take a tram into centre ville. (And it having a large sign saying "English Pub - We Speak English" - so that if you are in town for whatever kind of work and don't speak French it tends to be the pub you end up in.)

I can't say I'm surprised about the asylum seeker case- the Government's asylum policy seems to be made up on the hoof, with the intention of keeping as many people out as possible.

This is a cross-party Evil policy - it was brought in under Labour, and has been supported by the Coalition. The court ruling coming up is built on the 2010 ruling that is was not Ok to have a policy of deporting gay asylum seekers to places where they'd be persecuted was Ok because they could lie about their sexual orientation.

I had some experience working with refugees a few years ago and things weren't rosy then. This shows me that things are getting steadily worse for them here. Here's hoping the hearing comes down in the refugees' favour; the precedent set in the previous case in 2010 should help.

"Go home and lie [about something you believe deeply to your core, and probably while under extreme scrutiny if not torture]"? Honestly? What kind of country do we live in?
