To be fair, I don't think many of the problem drinkers are using the internet to order cases of wine (at least not yet).

I wonder if anyone asked the supermarkets why they offer promotional deals on beer and wine.

Because it sells enough more of it to make them additional profits?

I think there are two reasons.

It's a loss leader to draw in the punters.

If you stock up on beer from them you won't buy any from the corner shop.

If one wants to stop them doing it I think important to find out why they are doing it.
