What I did this weekend, by Andrew Ducker, aged 39 and 1/18th.

Things achieved this weekend:
A) With Julie

• Massive tidy up of the bedroom, including dealing with things lurking under the bed which Should Not Be (see Phil Jupitus post earlier).
• Rearrangement of the bedroom into a shape that makes it easier for either of us to go to the bathroom without awaking the other.
• About five loads of washing.
• Getting rid of our combined weight in cardboard (Amazon: Handy, but produce lots of recycling).
• New work shoes for me.
• New coat for Julie.
• Haircut for me.

B) Allll byyyy myyyyysellllllf.

• Emailed the people who are in the midst of buying over Delicious and told them it's not working properly at the moment. Discovered that they should be finished with new infrastructure soon, and had no idea that Stuff Was Wrong.
• Got the project I've been working on to the point where it can scrape the Delicious RSS feed and write an LJ post. Still got a bunch of stuff to do with this, but a few more evenings and I should have something I can use for me, and a few evenings after that it should be usable for anyone.

Which sounds like my cue to brush my teeth and curl up in bed with an episode of Castle.

Well thank you for letting Avos know Delicious isn't working right. I love Delicious and hadn't noticed problems.

A chunk of people had problems with the blog poster (myself, nwhyte, and a couple of people on DW) where it went crazy and started posting the same things over and over.

And if I look at the RSS feed for my posts, about one time in five it shows me a bunch from a few weeks back.

Not sure what's going on there...

Today I was editing bookmarks on Delicious (fixing LJ communities that no longer have the format "community.livejournal" ironically). After a while I noticed that the changes didn't seem to be sticking, even if I refreshed the page. So I figured I'd tell them it's not working, but the bug page wanted me to log in (even though I was) and wouldn't accept my login. Any idea what's up with that? I ask only because you successfully logged a problem - I saw it there! with your name!

And now it's not - I'm signed in to Delicious, but it's not carrying over to the forum. Which means that it's broken. Joy.

I just looked at some of the links I changed yesterday that didn't seem to have been updated, and now the changes are there. So technically I don't have anything to complain about.

By the way I was just tidying up bookmarks and found this one. I've gone to Pinboard and couldn't be happier.

Yeah. Pinboard looks perfect - except that they only autocomplete the top 1000 tags you have. As I have about 3,500 that doesn't work for me at all!

So I'm stuck with Delicious for now. I do check Pinboard occasionally, to see if they've fixed that.

Interesting - I haven't discovered that because I must have fewer than 1000 tags. Autocomplete isn't always useful anyway, if they're similar, so it's not a big issue for me.

I tend to want to group things together. So, although I only have one link tagged for Margaret Thatcher, I'd want a future second one to also be tagged margaret_thatcher so I could find them both when I wanted them.

I group things together too, but tend to not use a tag if I can search. So for something titled, say, "Thatcher's Legacy", I'd tag it with "politics" and "history" but not "margaret_thatcher" because I can search for that. Eventually when I look at things tagged politics I might see so many articles on her that I'd add such a tag.

Isn't this fascinating??

doesn't mention her in the title!

I tend to add a tag if it's likely there will be multiple entries about the same subject, or I might want to find that entry again based on that keyword. And with the volume of links I churn through tags definitely make that easier.

It is fascinating how different people use these things differently!
