I watched this simultaneously giggling and itching all over. When Julie wandered in near the end she found me sitting with one foot on the NAS box and one drawn up to my lap, because I cannot physically put them on the ground right now.

Fear of spiders seems a lot more prevalent in The British Isles. Where all your spiders are tiny and harmless. Like kittens, really.

Phil Jupitus should never come to Australia.

i found a category 2 in the bath last night. it'd been in the kitchen the previous day. given it was that mobile, i took it outside rather than having our resident arachnophobe eventually come across it and kill it. this was a kindness.

Spiders arent great at swimming. Especially in boiling hot tap water. :>

Ahaha. I have totally done the 'partner of an arachnophobe' thing. Except Morag's only mildly afraid so taunting her through the bathroom door with a dead spider isn't that mean, right? ...right?

I too kill them. Andy doesn't like it, but if I don't then I can't bear to be in whatever room it was in. Also, I find if I don't kill it within the first 20 seconds of "EEEP THERES A SPIDER!!!!!" then both empathy and fear kicks in, and I can't.

If it was a wasp, that might be an eventuality. But even I'm not that stupid. :P

If it was rational, it wouldn't be a phobia...

Me too. Sounds like you're as bad as me.

I can't even approach a category 2. Category 1s I can sometimes get, but I remember once having to ask my flatmate to fetch the vacuum cleaner because the spider was sitting over the door frame to the kitchen, and that would have required me to walk under it. No chance.

If I have to use a vacuum cleaner, I make sure to attach every available extension tube and the cleaner stays switched on for several minutes after the arachnid suction point.

User [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov referenced to your post from Phill Jupitus about fear of spiders saying: [...] Even though I'm not afraid of spiders, I thought this was extremely funny. Arachnophobes enjoyed it [...]

If you ever go to the Lake district on holiday, do not stay in the Rockery Suite at Sawrey Knotts. I have never seen such an enormous spider in RL before, nor have I ever been able to hear one attacking the inside of a pint glass...
