Usually I am immune to the misrepresentation of computers in TV shows.

But when you have something so stupid that anyone who has ever used a _typewriter_ should spot how ridiculously implausibly wrong it is, I just had to share.

From, which I found via [livejournal.com profile] draxar.

Hey, I've used two keyboards at the same time. And I was less than half the speed on each keyboard that I would be on just one.

So, two people - one keyboard should be more than TWICE as fast!

Likewise. I actually laughed out loud at that.

I remember hearing someone say NCSI actually deliberately tried to be as ridiculous as possible, but I don't know if that's true.

I was amused to see they did think to unplug the computer (not that that makes much sense, but it's a decent idea).

Checking the dialog, apparently they were trying to hack her computer specifically, so unplugging is appropriate.

I'm also amused that in the middle of the crisis, she takes the time to say "he or she". I'll use that in writing, but in casual conversation, especially in the middle of a crisis, I'd more normally say "they", or alternate pronouns, or say "the hacker" or "the scum"... :)

What is this I don't even...

If this were a piano keyboard, it might work. But then, who would hack a piano?

Thankfully iirc the producers were trying to take the mick. It annoyed me as well, right up to the Gibbs solution :)

They may be trying to take the mick, but what they're achieving is ruining my sense of immersion. Though I can't really comment, given I don't watch the show…

Real-world dual input situation: When an Airbus is in 'Alternate Law' control mode (i.e. the Flight Control System is confused enough that it has turned a lot of the automation OFF e.g. flight AF447 mid-Atlantic in a storm with faulty input devices), the pilots' inputs with the joysticks are ADDED together. So when the 'Pilot Non-flying' 'helps' the 'Pilot Flying' (rather than monitoring etc as intended), things get interesting. It may be what you want ("nose up lots, fast"), or it just might add to the confusion.

I think the reason why I highlighted the IRC one is 'cause if I'm on my own computer, I'm probably in (and paying at least vague/sporadic attention to) several IRC channels, so just the sheer level of misdescription and 'can you get a copy of the screen' made me go "Owwww"
