Surely the Met cannot be allowed to continue investiging this much longer, when it's apparent that they are deeply corrupted by Murdoch money, all the way to the very top.

And what nonsense to claim integrity. That's just... the arrogance of the man.

Plagiarism hunting - I'll still do it. I agree with the lecturer in the article in that it takes a large amount of time to do, but I'm building a position. I failed 2 students outright this year for plagiarism. This means they failed the entire course because of plag in 3/20 assignments that we knew about.

Now that I'm running the course this year, I'm having a plag session in the first week and high profile zero tolerance, along the lines of "I will have no qualms in failing you and the bona fide students on this course should have no problem with this...if you plan on cheating, leave now or I will catch you and your reference from us will reflect your fraud."

Etc.
It had better work.

I'd like to be able to take a stand like that, but the sad reality is that I just don't have the time to pursue any but the most blatant plagiarism cases; it would be time away from research that I can ill afford (I'm already on a 140% teaching load), and it's research that governs promotion.

If _I_ was innocent and had integrity

If I were you, I would have phrased that counterfactual rather differently!

Very depressing plagiarism article. What are these "evaluations" that determine the blogger's salary? Do they come from the students? That seems a very badly-designed system, certain to drive down standards.

We did student evaluations of the lecturers at uni, and they were looked at by the faculty so people were to some extent judged by them. I don't think they had a direct link to salary, but I remember when we had to allocate teaching prizes they were the first thing we went to.

[PS Was it you I got the Room reccomendation from? If so you were right, it was amazing]

[Yay! I don't specifically recall recommending it to you, but I have been recommending it to people, so might have done. It is extremely good]

I had only read the first few paragraphs before I went to bed last night, and it seems to have vanished this morning.

It seems to have been spreading quite far, link–wise, I'm guessing the attention was worrying/causing problems for him.

It's still in google's cache though

I can see the argument that if something becomes more about you than the rest of the stuff the organisation is doing, that it can be appropriate to step down, and let someone who can deal with the problems without constantly having to deal with attacks on them and through them the organisation.
