The new Tintin movie looks like a lot of fun.

(Of course, in traditional Steven Moffat style there's not a single decent female character on show.)

To be fair, there's only one in the whole of the Tintin oevre. And I might be the only one who loves Bianca Castafiore.

Wrong! I like her too. (I liked the way she was performed by Linda Polan in the BBC radio adaptation.) But, yes, the fault is in Hergé rather than Moffat.

She reminds me of my granny!

I won't deny that the selection of Boys Own material is on Moffat, but at least he's perpetuating a fail rather than starting a new one.

Not intended as an excuse, but were there many strong female characters in any of Herge's work? The only one that I can think of was from the Jo, Zette et Jocko.

Just thinking that if brought up on it, they can claim to be sticking to the source material.

Thing is, there's always scope to re-invent. Ach, maybe I'm just being a bit prescriptive but I don't want to see people put off of seeing something I want to be great.

Bianca Castafiore is probably the only one. There are so few female characters full stop -- I can think of her assistant Irma, the wives of Lampion and Alcazar, and that's about it.

I don't mind there being no decent female characters if they have gotten rid of the racism, colonialism and bigotry in the process.

As an aside: I didn't even know Moffatt wrote the script! I imagine he's pretty chuffed to be working with that caliber of production.

I like the way it looks but I suspect I will be on occasions outraged at what they do to the plot. In fact, I'm already miffed to see Haddock and Tintin being introduced. They are good friends already by this point.

Ah, I didn't know they were doing a plot mash.

How are they combining the drug smuggling of Crab with the treasure hunt of Licorne/Rackham? I sense more outrage... :/

Am I the only person who was always a bit creeped out by Tintin? I could never put my finger on it but the books always made me feel queasy.

I'm not a huge Tintin fan - I love the artwork, but the stories and humour leave me cold. I was worried about the uncanny valley problem but now I've seen this trailer I'm less worried, it looks like something I can imagine watching happily for 90-120 minutes.

And Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright has to be the best comedy/drama screen writing line up of all time, so unless Spielberg has edited every single joke out of the script it should be guaranteed fun.
