Think about the future
Jul. 7th, 2011 06:30 pmOne year from today I will be married.
This feels...odd.
Good. But still odd.
(I've been watching the weather all day. I could live with it being the same as it was today. Not perfect, but nice enough to get married outside in.)

Date: 2011-07-07 08:55 pm (UTC)I have one or two suggestions which may be of use. One way of looking at a wedding is that it's a gift to the people attending. If it's all about them, and not you, you can get through the planning, staging, and execution more easily. ymmv
A sneaky trick for arranging a honeymoon, if you don't already have some dream trip, is to ignore it while all they hysterics of running a wedding go on, and 10 days out from The Day, go online for the cheap travel packages. If just Getting Away is for you, that can be the easiest, cheapest fun.

Date: 2011-07-09 09:06 am (UTC)It was romantic, but not everyone's idea of it. We'd been talking about getting married since about 3 months after we got together, but we'd both had awful previous relationships, and wanted to be sure. And we didn't want to actually get married until after Julie's PhD was over. So we'd agreed that we'd wait to get engaged until a year-or-so before that. And we'd even gone ring-shopping together (see this entry). So it wasn't a surprise. But the surroundings were lovely, and it was a great moment, and it made both of us very happy :->
And I knew that we were suited because we get on. And we make each other happy. And we like playing computer games together. And we like making IKEA furniture together. And we have similar ideas about raising kids. And we have similar ideas about how people's brains work. And we get excited about similar things. And we rarely argue. And we approach problems the same. And we're both attracted to each other. And we're both similar kinds of geeks. Basically we're best friends who also want to have sex. What's not to like?
(Oh, and we love each other. Which is also necessary, but not sufficient.)
