Ok. So now I want the next season of Game of Thrones.

I shall probably get around to the first book soon. But I'm going to hold off of reading ahead of the TV series, because (from my understanding) the books are massively more detailed, so I'm gaining a lot from watching then reading, whereas the other way round wouldn't be as effective.

Also, either way around I'm going to have to wait about 8 years to find out how it ends.

Dragons! I think Julie and I should be allowed one each for our birthdays.

It looks like the plan is to have each season of TV be a single book - which, given that the first season just finished with the last scene of book 1, they appear to be handling nicely.

This makes it easy to not read past the TV *accidentally*, although not doing so deliberately might get harder.

Baby! Dragons! Fire!

I very much want to know what happens next. I think I shall seek out the books. Not sure whether I want to read faster than the tv or not. I suspect I shall get to the end of the first book and then get impatient for what happens next and get ahead.

Could not agree more and I know what happens in the next books. It's so damned addicting.

the show is better than the books...but the books have some pretty neat details.

I'll second that. I read a lot and like Tolkien (often called 'fairly yawn-inducing fantasy' or 'the books that would be five pages long if the central characters owned a Jeep'), but the Game of Thrones books were boring and painfully dense with names and dry politics. If you need a spreadsheet to keep track of the characters and plot lines...

The show is much better, and aside from some of the handicaps of the medium (show length, accurate visual translation without an infinite budget, etc), it's the way the books should have been.

My impression so far is exactly the reverse. I'm aware I'm in the minority, though.
