How many people updating their status at midnight to say "Happy New Year!" would it take to crash Facebook's servers?

Probably only one in ten of us! I remember back in the days when New Year's texts arrived instantly instead of several hours late.

Advance "Happy New Year" to you!

Presumably a lot of them would be trying to do it by text message or mobile internet, which would problems separate to any on facebook's servers so might spoil the experiment.

Actually, I'd assume that like any sensible business, FB have plans for times when their services will be particularly in demand.

(of course, all the people updating by text message etc are presumably assuming that other people are -reading- the updates)

Well it hasn't crashed yet from Australis/Asis type place in the world. So UK probably safe too?

But maybe later on once USA has come on board?
