re medical database - I was just thinking about how great a tool it is/should be, having just had NHS24, minor injuries in Castle Douglas, and a hospital in Ashington all able to quickly access my records with only my NHS number, name and postcode. What a shame it has such stupid, stupid limitations

I would cheerfully accept even that limited/broken system in place of what we have here in Ontario, which is basically "none". There was a big push to set up electronic records here a few years ago but between arcane medical privacy laws and the enormous costs of setting up what amounts to a parallel version of the Internet to comply with same we got nothing out of the funding but opportunities for partisan mud-slinging.

-- Steve bumps against these legal limitations all the time at work, which leads him to be a tad more sympathetic in his dismay over the wasted money.
