Reminds me of when a new flatmate arrived (of British heritage) & offered to cook as a 'thank you'. She started by putting the peas on...

Peas take about 3 minutes to cook! I hope you put their head on a spike as a warning to others!

We took her to one side and gently explained that greens were called that for a reason.

It wasn't her fault, having been raised on grey, mushy vegetables, her conditioning for vegetables well-cooked (as opposed to 'cooked-well').
