I looked at the Biblical rape laws, a visualisation link... and I thought if you needed to bleed when you had sex, maybe you could use one of those exploding blood capsules that they use in the movies?

Actually I take that back, theres probably things in those capsules that wouldn't be good for my internal health.... now a company that could make 'em ph balanced and without sugars etc now thats a winner.

Okay, as much as I like the flow chart of Biblical rape laws, I of course have to get picky about it and note that the 'you' in the flowchart is presumed female, even though there are absolutely injunctions against male-male rape (I'm writing a paper on the incident in Judges 19 now). It also presents itself as 'Holy Bible Rape Laws', even though it's clear that it's pulling just from a single chapter in Deuteronomy, a book which isn't even internally consistant about prosecutions for misconduct, which is obviously legislating to the specific more often than not -- check out Deuteronomy 25:11, which gives me a special giggle -- and which emerges at a very specific time in Israelite history with a very specifically anti-female agenda.

That all being said, I think it's fantastic to pull out the 'marry your attacker' clause and look at that! I mean, it's about as horrible on the outset as it seems, but there's evidence showing that it was also a good way for young people to get married when their parents intended one or both of them to marry different people -- oh, no, he raped me, whatever shall we do, guess we have to get hitched.

Aww, I feel fuzzy now!

It's just ... okay, I know that there are tons of religious folk out who read scripture without context, but I don't think the proper response from critics of the tradition (both inside and outside it) is to read scripture without context. This isn't even a comment specifically directed at this flow chart, which amused me and is a fairly accurate representation of the decision-making process, so far as Deut. 20 is concerned.

But it makes me think of the response to the Levitical laws you see, where people pull out the 'God hates fags' verses and go directly for LET'S LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER THINGS GOD HATES! Yes, that's amusing and a good initial strategy, but after a while, it's more important to start going, okay, let's look at why God ostensibly hates fags. Because I'll tell you right now, it's different from the reason God hates shrimp (and doesn't have a charming corresponding passage in Acts where God shows Peter a net filled with lesbians, though damn, now I wish it did).

I agree with this (both that it's a funny explanation of how bad things could be, but also that understanding the real historical situation is more important than picking quotes out of context. And, although it abuses the meaning of "both" the idea of the net full of lesbians :))

I would just like to point out that, with the health and diet link, I eat more like no.1 and look more like no.2, so the sample is clearly too small to draw any meaningful conclusions.

OMG!!!!!!!! I thought the TV cook was 30. *headdesk* See a little fat is sexy, curvy, and hides the wrinkles. :)

However I also think that the nutritionist has some good points and if she were in better lighting, make-up, and clothing would look much better. (Though maybe not as hot as the TV cook. Go body fat!)

"The nutritionist" is best known for repeatedly lying about her doctorate (bought over the internet) and selling diet books that tell you to eat food of similar colours at the same time, as they are "aligned". She's a massive fraud, and should probably be taken out and shot.

Oh my! I did not know that Gillian did not have credentials. While I can see that lots of what she says is good for you, demonizing food, any food, is not helpful at all. Plus, my Hubby says that every time she shows the "bad" food people are eating, he thinks it looks good and I gotta agree. Yet, she should get some more science - and joy in living and eating - behind her.

I LOVE that Nigella does not claim to be an expert. She just HONESTLY shows her love of food and makes is fun and easy for people. So of course people flock to her and want to try her food. She is joyous in her discussion of food. I wonder if love of life and food and eating helps her stay so healthy. And let's face it, so damn sexy, sensual, and amazing. I mean, I'm turned on by her and I'm straight and happily married! I would follow her anywhere and happily clean-up the kitchen just so I could watch her work her magic. :)

Another thing about Gillian is that her food takes forever to cook and that is a burden, usually, on the woman of the household. Uh, I don't think so.

And if Gillian every criticizes her Gillian can take a hike. :)

Now to go watch more Nigella. ;)
