A sheet of ice covered in 2mm of recently melted water is quite tricky to walk on.

(Snowcopalypse seems to be over, at least for the moment. It'll take a few days for the snow to melt though, as temperatures are hovering around 3 degrees).

We've still got snow from over a week ago, including a road that's still lethal, so it may take a little more than a few days!

OK, you're worse than my thirteen year old step-daughter.
At least she's been for a walk around the park taking pictures.

Roofs. Hooves, but roofs. Don't ask me why.

I was once walking down the street and a great slab of ice slid off a roof and knocked me flying. I was picked up by a policeman whose professional concern was only a little spoiled by the fact that he couldn't stop giggling like a schoolkid.

because you said Hullo I now feel a need to go stalk your profile or prod Andy to ask who you are!! See, you should never talk to random people on the internet!!

Oh, do. By all means. Or skip the stalking & prodding, and check me out directly.

Too late - I'd already found the website - I am an experienced stalker! And since Andy is such an UberGeek he gets notifications whenever we post so he'd already IM-ed me to tell me he couldn't be much help(Hi Andy!!!! Wave!!).

Interestingly I think I may have read one of your books(I was going to use the word inadvertently there but that may appear rude), the cover of Shelter looks spookily familiar to me and I do tend to buy books by their cover prettiness, I will check my shelves when I get home. Haven't read any of your fantasy stuff cos I grew out of fantasy when I was a teenager and now read thrillers and trash which I'd be embarrassed to tell folks about(I hit rock bottom last year when I actually read an entire Katie Price book). Charlie Stross has attempted to pull me back into the fantasy/sci fi/weird geeky book fold by handing over a book or two but I just seem to lack the brain to appreciate it anymore.

I shall now stop stalking you, however if I may can I add you?

Lordy, of course. Add away. And I hope you enjoyed Shelter, if it turns out that you did indeed read it. Certainly it's very pretty. Not sure if it's thriller or trash, but either way, really...

Ok done! And I didn't need to check for your reply as Andy very kindly informs me when you respond!! See he's a lurker stalker that does it by stealth with notifications!

To be fair, I'm supporting Andy here(quick get to the divorce courts) - you've been restricted to Fife streets which are far superior and less treacharous than the ones here in Edinburgh, I'm shocked at how little people seem to have cleared their pavements or put down a little grit.

Also, we only get a couple of days of thaw, by what I've heard; next week, it blasts back from Siberia again. The packed snow won't have time to melt, and the meltwater will freeze over it, and it's all going to be horrid.

things i also discovered

i hammered apart about 20 feet of 6 inch ice from the pavement out my front door and felt all rugged. One person of the 50 or so who passed said thanks.

one amazing thing is watching the melting water flow oh so slowly down the outside of waterpipes and all the icicles hanging off them.

also have stopped wearing earphones when a couple of days ago ice hit my back legs; turned around and there was a feckton of roof ice where i was just at.
