Taking the data from my poll and formatting it in a more useful manner:

Interesting that less people liked Excession than Player of Games of Use of Weapons, but that that liked it _really_ liked it. Matter is the least well regarded, and Surface Detail the most, although that last fact tells us very little, as only five people have read it.

I'm in the middle of it (it being the first Culture novel I've ever read) and loving it!

You can tell when you're in the exact middle because there's a lake, and a stone, and the ripples go everywhere.

It's very good. A tad unpleasant though. And takes a while to get going.
