Can't stop the signal
Oct. 5th, 2010 09:45 pmSome of you may have noticed the number of times I've mentioned getting a link/picture/video via
octopoid_horror is not small.
Thankfully, he's now started posting his stuff over at Tumblr as Ths Is The Signal, which means that I'll be getting less emails, and can just add him (I have a tumblr account, not that I really use it).
If you like random videos and images* then you could do a lot worse than to drop by occasionally.
*And if you don't then what on earth are you doing here?

Date: 2010-10-05 09:18 pm (UTC)It's not because they use it. It's because they heartily pissed me off with their use of it.

Date: 2010-10-05 09:29 pm (UTC)Were you referencing other people's use of the word 'controlling' there? Because that's really not a meaning I think that fits. The numpties cannot be said to be controlling me -- they have absolutely no knowledge of my feelings. To my mind, control implies volition on the part of the controller. I am perhaps letting my experience with the numpties poison my feelings about something -- I should say 'no tumblr with numpties!' rather than 'no tumlbr!'.
The fact remains that I've been somewhat put off it. See in my LJ archives about 3 months ago ;)

I'm looking through your journal archives, but your habit of cryptic subject lines isn't helping :-p

Date: 2010-10-06 11:17 am (UTC)Seems I only mentioned the first meeting: http://momentsmusicaux.livejournal.com/2010/03/11/
The main one, which was a full-blown hippie meeting with hand waving, was two incredibly frustrating hours of my life in which I was completely railroaded by wankers who had no understanding of the issue whatsoever but made all the right noises to get everyone easily convinceable on board.

Date: 2010-10-06 04:56 pm (UTC)However, I did learn from this that in order for me to do pro bono work, at least one of the following is required:
kudos
fun
satisfaction of making something kickass cool
grils
cake

Date: 2010-10-06 08:11 pm (UTC)If I put something on tumblr, have I "tumbled" it? Is the 'r' just there with an omitted 'e' to sound hip and cool like flickr but has no affect on usage, or have I actually "tumblred" because that looks wrong.
Should I get all archaic-seeming and write "tumblr'd"? If I do that, it's a short step to "D_____ and B_____ you, my Lord M______. I had but nary a scriven that thine Hessian had tumblr'd to milord's bodkin complot, prithee forsooth!"
