Ticketmaster owns GetMeIn.com, the largest (I think) reseller of second-hand concert tickets in the UK.

Which means that whenever a popular concert starts selling tickets they essentially sell a large block of tickets straight to scalpers, who then put them straight back on the market on their other site, whereupon Ticketmaster gets a second cut of the cash.

It's ingenious, it really is.

In the US, Ticketmaster recognised they were missing out on a chunk of revenue from reselling tickets. Back in 2008, they then bought the second largest scalping website, (Tickets Now) for $265m. The largest such website (Stub Hub) is owned by Ebay.

this is why Pearl Jam spent a good decade refusing to tour Ticketmaster venues

unfortunately the rest of the entire music industry didn't bother supporting them, and the situation is now worse.
