So, international DNS has gone live. Does everyone see this properly? And does it work for them?
Interestingly, I found it quite tricky to copy/paste as the text goes right to left, while the http goes left to right...

Date: 2010-05-06 02:13 pm (UTC)But Chrome and Firefox show the URL as garbled. Only Safari (on my system) shows the correct characters in the URL bar.
Yay!

Date: 2010-05-06 02:25 pm (UTC)I'm not sure why not; I know roughly how the mechanism is supposed to work, and as far as I can see it ought to be foolproof, but apparently not. I suppose it's possible that my company's name server is mucking about deliberately with international names in some way; if I remember, I'll try again at home.
eta: yes, Linux Firefox on my Debian machine at home works fine (though, as other people say, the URL bar shows the raw xn--gibberish names rather than the Arabic). Something odd at my office, then.

Date: 2010-05-06 11:06 pm (UTC)This is 'cos this IDN has not been "whitelisted" in my firefox settings (I have a vague memory of firefox implementing this to prevent scammers using fake IDNs which use unicode characters which "look" like others)
If you go to "about:config", add a boolean called "network.IDN.whitelist.xn--wgbh1c" set to true and restart firefox, it shows it in arabic in the URL bar.
