The Kiln Of The First Flame is relit
Feb. 7th, 2015 11:37 amNinety three hours, four minutes, and fifty seconds later, having achieved level 84 and maxed out a few upgrades, with the aid of the Knight Solaire*, I completed Dark Souls.
Least favourite bit: A tie between fighting Ormstein & Smough, and the bits in the Tomb of the Giants which are pitch black until you find a light/light spell/lit helmet.
Favourite bit: Pretty much all of it.
But particularly the vast, sprawling world it's set in, where (nearly) everything links together. You can get a taste of that from the map viewer someone hacked together:
Oh, and the huge amount of variation - so many different adversaries, each of which behaved in different ways, and needed different tactics to defeat. And I've only played one of the "builds" of the game - Dex-heavy, concentrating on light thrusting weapons. Playing through again with a spell-caster, or a cleric, or even a high-strength club wielder is almost tempting.
Really glad I played it. I think I need a break to do something a little less intense for a while...
*And multiple walkthroughs and FAQs

I'm looking for something that covers the whole sweep of Roman history, from beginnings through to its ending (and influences on successors). I can find several that tell you all about a few famous Emperors, but I'm not bumping into anything that covers it all.
Anyone suggest something good? Or even a couple that between them cover it?
(I don't need huge amounts of detail - but on the other hand, I don't mind watching several hours of documentary series, if it's good.)

My laptop is currently in for repair*, with me probably going to have to get a new one.
So I thought I'd check out the Toshiba website, and have a look to see what's available. They have a form that allows you to select your criteria, which would be great.
If it wasn't appallingly rubbish.
1) I can set a _minimum_ price I want to pay, but no maxiumum. Surely "My budget is £500" is more common than "Don't offer me things worth less than £500"?
2) The two lowest memory options are "<4GB" and "6GB". What if I want "4GB"?
3) There's no way of saying "I want an SSD". Which I do, as I don't need that much storage on my laptop, and for 256GB, the price is now down to £100, which is affordable.
4) Well, I didn't get as far as finding a fourth thing wrong, because I've now come here to write an LJ post and then go somewhere else to look for a laptop.
*The screen was replaced ok, but half time I picked it up the screen would glitch horribly and input would die. I suspect I cracked the motherboard when I sat on it.
