Genre and Spoilers
May. 30th, 2010 12:35 pmI was just discussing good SF movies with a friend, and he suggested an example which is both SF and very good, but where knowing that the movie is SF is a spoiler for the movie. (I'll name the movie in comments.)
Can anyone else think of a movie where knowing its genre is a spoiler?
Obviously, of course, I expect the comments to have spoilers in...

A question arrived to me via
octopoid_horror:
What links Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Alan Cumming, Paul Reubens and Hank Azaria?
Fortunately he also supplied the answer: The Smurfs Movie.

The Fun parts
May. 30th, 2010 07:35 pmOne of my favorite anecdotes is from a writer who decided that he would write all the exciting, fun parts of his novel first, and go back and fill in the boring middle parts later. When he had finished writing just the fun parts, he looked over what he had, came to an important realization, and sent the finished work off to his editor.

And on that note, I've just finished the first 21 parts (and first week) of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. And if you liked Harry Potter at all and aren't reading this then you really, really should be.
