A couple of days ago I received this email:
Dear Andrew,

My name is Lucy and I am the webmaster of the book price comparison site: BooksPrice.com . Recently we released a new redesigned site and we thought it might be interesting to you:

Booksprice.com is a free service of finding the best price on books among the major online stores. Our real time price comparison can help you save as much as 60% from the retail price. At BooksPrice you can look for the cheapest price on new & used books, and also compare the price on a purchase of several books together.

I will appreciate if you can post a comment on your blog "May Contain Nuts" about our service, to inform your readers about this useful and free service.

We appreciate the effort and time that is involved in our request, and would like to thank you with a small gift in return.
Please choose between the (already) classic "The Time Traveler's Wife" or one of the books from the Price Nobel Winner Orhan Pamuk: "Snow" or "My Name is Red", and we will be glad to send it to you. Just reply to this e- mail with your chosen book and your shipping address and we will send the book to you.(Don't forget to write us your feedbacks, too).

This offer is not connected to posting our site on your blog but we will be very happy if you will write about us!

I hope that you find the service interesting. If you have any queries or you'd like more information, kindly contact me.

Sincerely,

Lucy Orbach

Huzzah! People are offering me bribes to write about them!

Needless to say, book pricing sites aren't my area of expertise, I live 3000 miles away from New York, and I don't approve of bribery. But should you wish to wander over and take a look, or knock them forever from your list of companies you're willing to use, you can now make an informed decision on your own time.

Link Death

Struck by the fact that I've now posted 935 items on [livejournal.com profile] andyduckerlinks(via http://del.icio.us/andrewducker) I wandered back to the earliest ones, which turned out to be just over two years ago. Meaning I post about one and a half items a day.

In any case, I clicked on the first ten items I ever tagged, and four of them are now dead. Of the following ten, two are now dead. Interestingly, it's commercial sites and livejournal that are the best at retaining old links - and self-hosted domains that just vanish into the ether.

I wonder if anyone has researched this.

That'll be Aaron, Susan, Andy and Marianne. Marianne was my first girlfriend back in 1992. I was after Susan at the time, but we don't talk about that...
Staying over tonight and then hopefully meeting up with Neil tomorrow on his way through Manchester to Altringham.
