Struck by the fact that I've now posted 935 items on [livejournal.com profile] andyduckerlinks(via http://del.icio.us/andrewducker) I wandered back to the earliest ones, which turned out to be just over two years ago. Meaning I post about one and a half items a day.

In any case, I clicked on the first ten items I ever tagged, and four of them are now dead. Of the following ten, two are now dead. Interestingly, it's commercial sites and livejournal that are the best at retaining old links - and self-hosted domains that just vanish into the ether.

I wonder if anyone has researched this.

either i had thought that del.icio.us had a dead link spider thingie, or i just imagined it.

and i did imagine it.

but, if you're a Mac user, here's a useful gadget that searches for dead links in yer delicious list. You can delete the links, or choose to view them on the wayback machine or google cache.

if yer not a mac user... well, you can come over to mine and clean up yer links from here.
