The Clay Shirky crit is an interesting mixture of good points and the swish of someone completely missing the point...

Mind you, the essay sounded more like "I hate Clay Shirky, let me find a way to tear his popular essay apart" than "Hmm, this essay has some problems."

It sounded like someone who was fed up with Shirky getting away with murder and wanted to point out how little content there was in one of his essays. Which, yes, will include some snark.

I think one of his problems was that he had no idea what the point was actually supposed to be - hence his complaints about the vagueness.

That labia video is just horrible. I couldn't bear to watch more than a few minutes.

How the fuck do women get this into their heads? Are there actually guys who say 'Sorry love, you've got funny flaps'? Really?

Meanwhile, plenty of men get circumcised before they've even realized they have a penis.

Apparently there have been cases of men who have been weirded out by female genitalia because it doesn't look how it does in the movies...

It doesn't have to be. But far too many people will do anything to look "normal", and normality is defined by what people see around them.

If more people were happy to stand up and be happy being themselves rather than normal then we'd all be a lot happier.

There used to be a similar censorship test in the UK that referred to the visibility of the inner labia as not okay - outer labia in, inner labia out.

One thing this documentary piece didn't address was that the womens' genitals wouldn't be as visible if their pubic hair wasn't shaved.
