Lilian had a few friends over (none of whom are on LJ, as far as I know) for a dinner party. She made some amazing food - including what was basically bread and butter pudding, only with some kind of Pannetone (Italian sweet bread) and a sauce made from butter, brown sugar and syrup - I practically went into glycemic shock being in the same room as it. The conversation was great (half the people there were either lawyers, legal academics or other academics) and we ended up chatting until 1am about everything from traumatising films (Titus, Watership Down and Requiem for a Dream being the ones I recall) to whether laws were occasionally broken down and rebuilt according to new epistomologies. In other words, exactly the kind of thing that I love and many other people run screaming from. Oh, and we also covered Scotland and its opinion of itself, which is quite apposite considering
this story in the Observer today about the Scots love of failure.
Today is a much slower day, consisting largely of frivolously searching for cool tech - for no other reason that I felt like it.
Hmm, couldn't remember the word 'frivolously' there, my quick search for the right word (before
trashcanglam put me right) did indicate that 'decadent' was a pejorative term. Silly me, I've always rather enjoyed being decadent.
