Writer's Disease (A Buffy Interlude)

One of the things I've noticed overthe last couple of months is a tendency to, the moment I experience something, start piecing together some ideas about how I'd write it in my journal. I'll come up with opening sentences, turn over different approaches and generally toss ideas back and forth rather than just get on with whatever it is.
Except, that is, when the experience is suitably emotional that it can drag me completely away from any thoughts of myself. Such is the case with The Body, an episode of Season 5 Buffy which is just amazingly well done. The structure, style and skill with which it's put together just blew me away. Unfortunately we've had to pause for a short while as Erin promised to call someone back about some film stuff she's trying to put together. I'm rather nervously looking forward to the second half of the program.
As an aside, I absolutely love the fact that so much of Buffy is available on video over here. I've watched pretty much all of it on video, in my own time, when I had the time and the inclination. It's ruined tv for me. Why, exactly, do I have to schedule my life around tv, when in this modern age it should schedule itself around me?

So the fight is casual, relatively unimportant, and not focused on.
And yeah, since I started downloading all my tv, I've gained even less tolerance for advertising breaks.

Date: 2002-02-14 06:52 am (UTC)And you know, I've not been a regular viewer of Buffy until this season, but I'm going to be catching up on video, as well. Let me know if you like and I could start taping this season for you, since i imagine it's not out on video yet.
As for TV scheduling itself around you... Don't they have that in the UK yet? I don't subscribe, but I know there ARE services here stateside that make it do just that.
No time!

Cheers for the offer of taping stuff, but it'll undoubtably be out on video over here in the next few months and I'll grab it then. Owning it all turned out to be a boon when my girlfriend moved in - she went through the first 4 seasons in about a month :->
We do have Tivo over here, but I'm damned if I'm going to pay ?300 to buy one and then ?10 a month after that. I'll happily spend ?200 and ?5-?7 a month. But what I'd really like is TV on Demand.
