"Many people feel that mass acceptance and smooth socialization are desirable life paths for a young adult... Many people are often wrong... Don't bother being nice. Being popular and well liked is not in your best interest. Let me be more clear; if you behave in a manner pleasing to most, then you are probably doing something wrong. The masses have never been arbiters of the sublime, and they often fail to recognize the truly great individual. Taking into account the public's regrettable lack of taste, it is incumbent upon you not to fit in."

If you're interested in why we need gay marriage, you need to read this.

I can only assume most men don’t have romantic fantasies.

I just read a (slightly) heated discussion on the merits of Pretty Woman, as it occurred on the film board here. The main point from the male side was that it was completely unrealistic and pure fluff from beginning to end. It wasn't until a while later that a woman replied that that was what they wanted in a romantic comedy - something unreal that can take them away from the iffy realities of men who fart in bed and aren't perfect.

Oh, and the men complaining about the lack of realism in the relationships are the same ones who happily recommend The Matrix Reloaded, and therefore don't seem to be against lack of realism in general. Failing to realise that just because _they_ only have fantasies about parts of the universe involving leather and guns it doesn't mean that other people don't have different ones seems very odd to me.

It's been possible for gay people to get married in the Netherlands, but travelling elsewhere meant that their marriages weren't recognised.

Now, however, the EU is set to state that if people are married in one country in the EU, they are married in all of them.

I can see a lot of people moving to the Netherlands to get married...

Which will, of course, spur other countries to liberalise their laws.

About time too.

Sort out your life by roleplaying it. As a coping strategy it doesn't sound half bad.

Playing a member of the despicable Scorpion Clan in Hugh's Legend of the 5 Rings game means that I pass a lot of notes back and forth, as most of my actions are underhanded and not to be mentioned in front of others.

fed up with scrawling down indecipherable notes, I took my PDA and keyboard with me this week. Whenever I wanted to send a note to Hugh I typed it in and then handed him the PDA. Because I type much faster than I write I could put a fair bit more detail into what I was writing.

I passed nearly 800 words of notes.

And then the Word program crashed and I lost it all. Not that I needed it, but I had been thinking it would be cool to keep them to look over later on.

Oh well, it still worked well.
