I've seen Erin off to the train station, from whence she's heading to Edinburgh, to spend a few hours assisting sub-editors in putting together tomorrow's Scotland on Sunday. On the way we popped into WH Smiths, where I finally spent the vouchers my grandmother gave me for Christmas on a couple of books - The Cider House Rules and Carter Beats the Devil, one because I loved the film both times I saw it, the other because it's been fantastically well reviewed and stars a stage magician in the 1920s, a good start if ever I heard one.
I came home after that, and I've been idly surfing the internet since then, tracking down a decent version of the recent Doom 3 video (the original version was very high quality, but 5 FPS, which isn't what you really want for showing off your new game), looking over something I wrote for Livejournal the other day (ick, needs a fairly big rewrite, I come across as even more terribly pompous than I am in real life).
I really ought to be working on the Census system at the moment, but I'm putting it off until I get this download finished and watched. Besides which the cat's making delightful purring noises on my lap. Oh and I'm also trying to reinstall Black and White, which is causing me hassles because the CD appears to be defunct - there's an honest to goodness hole in the silver backing, which can't be a good thing. I may have to borrow a copy off of someone else to install it from.
No real plans for the rest of the day, although I may venture to the supermarket later, as I'm supposed to be cooking tonight. I've got completely out of the habit in the last month due to a fairly constant tiredness. I'm determined to get back into the habit again, however, and try some new things too. I need to find out how you make sauces. I'm sure it's not very hard, and Joe's bound to have books that tell you what you're supposed to do. Once I've done it a few times I can start experimenting and see what I can make that's cool.
Great, now my CD drive is pretending not to exist at all. A restart appears to be in order. I shall return, I feel sure, later on...
