Date: 2010-04-06 01:20 pm (UTC)I assume they'll find you a station that fits you reasonably well
Ah, interesting point. I assumed you'd be born into the society in a random caste. If you're adopted as-is into the society, it may be better for you personally (although I seem to recall it ended badly for (?) John), but I still think it'd suck in general.
Also, I'm realizing more things in the society that I think were intended to be bad, but are not necessarily so. And that simply living in a futuristic society (even if you think its a politically bad one) may be a worthwhile if uncomfortable choice if the technology and health care is enough better.

Date: 2010-04-06 01:33 pm (UTC)The culture of BNW is definitely very hedonistic. The examined life has little to no place in it. It's not a world that I, right now, would choose to skip to from this one, because I have a very privileged life here. But it definitely has some advantages, as well as some disadvantages.

Date: 2010-04-06 01:43 pm (UTC)Thank you :) I'm interested to see. I ideally need to come back and post something longer and more coherent about it myself.
Maybe I just remember different aspects of the world from you. Hedonistic seems like a good description, but I had the impression that you HAD to participate in all the soma, televised entertainment, etc, which seems totalitarian.

Date: 2010-04-06 12:32 pm (UTC)[x] Not a bad album, but Iron Maiden have done better.
Easter rocked - or more precisely having two days free holiday to go down to Nottingham rocked. Otherwise I barely notice Easter going by (apart from Sunday telly is even worse than usual).
