I'm surprised the Cheezburger folks don't have a website for Google StreetView WTF yet.

It looks like a tool that someone forgot about and left on one of the lenses.

"400m across, and hanging like a football field
over the valley of the stone circles
wondering what the crop will yield
Cos the mothership has come
Cos the mothership has come
Who's she gonna take this time?
Right now tell me who's she gonna claim?"

And for those of you who aren't familiar with Julian Cope go here. In one of those odd bits of synchronicity, the song playing when I read the post.

Parade float? UFO? Sign of the coming apocalypse?

Or, y'know, what [livejournal.com profile] holyoutlaw said.

I'm going with Superman though.

Think of it less as a stupid human editing mistake and more as the GIANT FLOATING PLIARS OF GOD hanging above the world as he makes some changes. ;)

It's so hard to get good help these days. Guess I'll just have to do a hard reboot on this reality now that the denizens have realised that they are in a simulation.

The alien mothership!!!!*

*hahah! Google engineer taking pliers to the camera while parked (hopefully!).

parked.. on double-yellow lines. Naughty naughty.

But yes, the cameras in the street view car's setup are in housings that have glass fronts, and presumably the 'upwards' camera is no exception, and so the pliers could easily have been left on that, and it be far enough away to be not entirely out of focus.

Those are the biggest pliers I've ever seen!

Is it just me, or is this presented in 3D? Frankly, I'm completely weirded out.

Also, is this immersion map thing available for everywhere? I hadn't seen this until today. How do I search for views like this one?

Also also: the 3D comment above was due to a blue/red shift in the image the first time I looked. It's gone now.

when i looked there was an icon on the left under the zoom of a head with red/blue glasses, so it could be 3d presented.

Huh. It's either been fixed, or the link is not taking me to the same place.

OK, that's just bloody weird! Last time I clicked that self-same link and got the mobile version. Clicked over to "normal" then "street view" & no pliers on top (non-intersection as the little pin linked to random part of street). This time? It goes to the proper intersection, and there are the pliers. Hmmm, FF on crack? Or Google? Or my $@#%-ing ISP?

(No, I'm not betting on the ISP. Whatever gave you that impression??? It's only been randomly denying me access to my own LJ (& particular other LJs and, occasionally, other sites too) for years, but every other ISP around here just leeches off these people so it's not like changing would do any good.... *sigh*)

Disappointing. I looked all over the place nearby but couldn't find Chaka Demus anywhere.

It'll explain why that white house on the corner is having such difficulty selling.
