Heh. They don't eat that much of my time. Usually 15 minutes over lunchtime and then other bits and pieces while waiting for code compilation and other people to get back to me.

Oh wow, the WIPP (nuke warning thing) is something I remember looking at when the internet was still new to me - it was certainly the first PDF I remember seeing because I was utterly confused by the concept. It didn't look like that one does, though, it was a much cruder scan, but I was fascinated by the whole thing. Thanks for the reminder!

(I can't date when I saw it though, I think it was pre-1999, possibly pre-1997)

I would also like to take this opportunity to point out that the infamous video of the exploding whale was the first video I downloaded off the internet, and the first www page was something dad found about Sumo wrestling in Japan, everyone marvelling that you could read information held on a computer on the other side of the world in 1994.

I remember the whale video. And being reminded of a similar scene in the book The Many Coloured Land.

I don't remember the first video I downloaded. I do remember the first BBS (monochrome) - back before there was a web :->
