... Yes, dark figure, stand peacefully, draw your sword back and lower your head. That will counter this move.

Yep

It's a great stunt, but Target Guy isn't even trying... in fact he's positioning himself carefully in order to take the hit.

I thought he was goign to swing the blade *up* in an "unterhau" and cut the Elephant Runner Guy in two.

It would have been funnier my way.

Love this one. The Ancient German Masters warn against flashy moves. I think this is from a film, though?

Yes, good martial artists do not always make good movie martial artists. Rather it's about being able to choreograph and sell the moves etc. However, it is interesting to hear the failings of what target guy is doing from a a martial artist's perspective as well.

I was indeed being pedantic. It probably looks amazing at full speed. It's just, in slow mo, the target guy is so obviously a willing patsy.

I would have had him throw a cut at the hero, have the hero spring backwards, have tagret guy sweep the other way but - wtf? - where is hero? OOF!

Ong Bak, or something else with Tony Jaa, I think.

I would bet on Ong Bak 2. The dude is Tony Jaa, which I knew even before he started doing stunts off an elephant. And since it is Tony Jaa and the guy on the ground is not an Australian mobster who has stolen Tony Jaa's Elephants, it isn't The Protector.

I have Chocolate on my stack of DVDs to watch next! Apparently one of the fight scenes has her fighting in the Tony Jaa style (hardly surprising!)

That would have hugely improved Chocolat.

"You killed my father, and you stole my elephant!"
- Tony Jaa's character, The Protector
