Ooh, that's vile^H^H^H^Hnice! I'm a plot point. It's a bit like those fascinating stories in which the one black guy knows a mystical voodoo ritual his magical black grandfather taught him.

Some context: There is a lot of history of doctors mutilating the genitals of newborn intersexed babies to make them look like whichever sex the doctor thinks they should be. This often leaves the children later in life unable to have sex, or in regular pain, or unable to orgasm or with genitals which don't match their gender in a way they find unpleasant. This is probably still happening. So I'm not too keen on cheerful portrayals of this kind of thing happening, without any commentary, "not a big deal" and mainly as a clever plot twist.

Thank you for the context. I'm aware of it (through stuff to do with a friend), and I agree that it's upsetting.

I didn't think it was portrayed as not that much of a big deal, it seemed to me that the experience was one of the ones that had left the main character badly damaged and desperately unhappy. But I can understand that it being used as a plot point rather than as something more major that was explored for itself would make you unhappy.
