Date: 2009-03-18 03:35 pm (UTC)... I can't remember if I have played a tape in the last twelve months ... it's very possible, I just can't remember ...
... and the MP3s etc. have been on a laptop, on a CD-R into a TV/home cinema set up, on an iPod, an iPhone and several other phones. So different players for the same sort of medium.

Date: 2009-03-18 03:40 pm (UTC)I did forget Minidisc. But then so has the world.
I've had my MP3s played through a large number of players too - (laptop, desktop, Modded XBox, portable player), but I don't think that really matters that much.

Date: 2009-03-18 03:51 pm (UTC)And I agree that mp3s played on different players, the players don't matter much ... but then what about mp3s that are on a different machine across a network ... internet music or mp3? Does it matter (serious question) where the "player" is and whether the music is streamed?

Date: 2009-03-18 04:27 pm (UTC)The point was largely to find out how most people listened to music, whether CDs were phasing out yet (definitely not), MP3s were now 100% mainstream (yes), and whether people were using music streaming services like Spotify/Last.FM/Pandora (yes, but clearly not mainstream yet).
All the other options were chucked in to see if anything interesting turned up.

Date: 2009-03-18 04:38 pm (UTC)It has either been at someone else's house (including my landlord's) or while ripping it to MP3.
Am I still getting music on CD? Yes. Am I buying many new albums on CD? Only at music festivals, at filkcons or from friends over the internet. Otherwise it's second hand from ebay and then ripped to MP3 straight away and probably never played from CD again)

Date: 2009-03-18 04:47 pm (UTC)Have only just signed up for Spotify so haven't really used it much yet, but use Last.fm from time to time, and the BBCs online stuff nearly every day! (whether time delayed iPlayer or the listen live for radio)

Date: 2009-03-18 03:05 pm (UTC)I've abandoned tape these days, and regretfully I've never owned a serious turntable... just a hand-me-down as a kid, that didn't follow me when I moved away.
-- Steve's also one of those few, lonely, sad cases who bought into SACD.

Date: 2009-03-18 04:22 pm (UTC)Muzak is interesting, and is another step on my reply asking "what is the point of this questionnaire?" ... as there are music storage (MP3/AAC/vinyl/minidisc) and playback (internet radio etc.) options combined.
