I've currently got the Eee plugged into my monitor, keyboard and mouse. This gives me an entirely silent desktop experience for the first time _ever_.

I think my next proper desktop is going to have to be as close to solid state and passively cooled as I can manage...

Yes! I was actually going to comment on this yesterday, and tell if you if it wasn't for the "click click" occasionally, I wouldn't even know it was on...

i would get one, but i can't think what i'd use it for. i like my laptop having a high res screen and some grunt, and SSD HDDs aren't big enough yet. weighs a ton, but carrying it around sadly probably contributes significantly to my total exercise. :>

I used to harbour dreams of building a very, very quiet desktop machine. Before that, I really, really wanted an xtelly (... um. By which I mean a diskless X terminal, because apparently the term 'xtelly' is referenced only two places on the entire internet, but I swear I didn't make it up...).

But in the end, I've ended up preferring laptops over desktops, which have a tendency to be very, very quiet anyway. Which is why it irks me so that the 80G laptop drive I've had since '95 is annoyingly loud and whiny.

Nonetheless, [livejournal.com profile] time_for_tea's system with its Reserator is really incredibly impressive...
